CSW65

The Working Group on Girls presented a Girls Virtual Space that allowed girl delegates to come together and connect, discuss and share ideas, initiatives, and interests throughout the 65th Commission on the Status of Women. The Working Group on Girls, Girl Advocates hosted three workshops, as well as four debrief sessions that created a community for all girls attending the virtual CSW.

Our girl advocates discussed the role of girls in advocacy work to advance the full participation of women and girls in public life, eliminating gender based violence, and achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.

Debrief Sessions:

The debrief sessions aimed to create a space for girls, facilitating community and conversation in a virtual CSW setting. The goal was for girls to be able to talk to each other about events that they attended throughout the day, topics that they thought were interesting, or struggles that they had, to collectively problem solve, and create a support network for girl advocates.

Generation Equality and Action Coalition Overview Workshop:

In this session, girls were given an overview of the action coalitions, Generation Equality Forums, and conversation circles. The hour went in depth into the six action coalitions and explored, “How will Action Coalitions accelerate a transformative agenda of generational change within our own communities?”

Using Social Media for Advocacy:

The social media session explored how girls can use social media as a tool for advocacy, going further into different platforms, conducting strategic reviews of accounts, and breaking down the audience girls’ appeal to. For those who don’t have social media accounts, we went over how to craft an elevator pitch in order to succinctly introduce yourself to anyone in a virtual space.

Advocacy After CSW:

This session went over actions on how girls can share the knowledge that they’ve acquired during the CSW programming to others in their community and engage in activism around gender inequality.

Girls Caucus:

Here girls discussed the draft of the Agreed Conclusions and made changes to the language to ensure that girls are included. Participants also discussed how to ensure that girls are leaders in the implementation of the document.
