Ms. Michele Bachelet former President of Chile, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women will deliver the keynote address at Girls Stand Up! Orientation for Girls and Young Women Attending CSW 55.

The Working Group on Girls of the NGO Committee on UNICEF in partnership with Pace University will present this Orientation Day 20 February 2011 for girls and those who are interested in girls’ rights. This Orientation Day is intended for those who are planning to attend the 55th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) located at the UN Headquarters in New York City.
The day will prepare attendees to actively participate in CSW 55. Orientation Day presentations will focus on the theme for this year’s CSW, “Access and participation of women and girls to education, training, science and technology, including for the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work” and the review theme “The elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against the girl child”.
The day will include interactive workshops on the history of CSW, and the primary and review themes as they relate to girls’ rights. Participants will also receive training in advocacy skills and learn how to advocate most effectively for girls’ rights at CSW 55.
